Access Control System:
An access control system, or ACS, is any system designed to restrict user access to a computer system according to predefined rules. For example, on most computer systems, users must enter a valid name and password to log in to the system. And, after they log in, those users are allowed to view, create, and modify only some of the files and directories in the file system.
Access control is a data security process that enables organizations to manage who is authorized to access corporate data and resources. Secure access control uses policies that verify users are who they claim to be and ensures appropriate control access levels are granted to users.
There are three types of access control: physical, logical, and administrative. Physical access control limits access to a physical location, such as a building or room. Logical access control limits access to computer networks, systems, and data. Administrative access control sets permissions and privileges for users to access resources.
The most common method of access control is the use of passwords. Other methods include biometrics, smart cards, and tokens.
